Just came back from a planning meeting with a group of friends who are all intending to go to New York for a visit this coming weekend. We’re planning to leave late Friday night, get there early Saturday morning, spend a night and two days’ worth of sightseeing there, and come back on Sunday night. So far, we’ve got 10 guys and 1 girl going on this trip… in our group, that is. I know of at least two other groups who are also planning to go to New York during the weekend as well, so we may all end up bumping into each other. It’s quite interesting to see how the students have naturally formed into semi-regular groups within the 40 of us who were sent here from Singapore. The group I most often hang around with is comprised of the majority of the NUS and NTU students, with one or two add-ons. Then there’s the Republic Polytechnic trio and their cronies, who are pretty much loud and lively all the time. They’re young, excitable, and all of them love playing First-Person Shooters. Around my brother’s age. And then there’s a few other groups of quieter people, and a couple of loners. And a few people who bounce around from group to group.
In any case, we’ve tentatively tried to place reservations for bus tickets and beds at a student hostel in New York. The cost of travel and lodging shouldn’t come out to more than $100. I’m trying to keep to a low budget of $250 for the entire trip. Not sure if it’ll work, but it’s worth it to try. It’s times like these that I really wish I had a camera, though. What’s the point of going to all these fancy places if I can’t take any photos? Ah well. There’ll be plenty of other people bringing along cameras. I’ll just tag along and join in the photos with them. That is, IF we manage to secure transport and a place. New York is pretty busy this time of year. Summer holidays, and the 4th of July – Independence Day – is just around the corner.
