Today was the 4th of July – America’s Independence Day. There was a combination orchestral performance and fireworks display scheduled for 8:30 – 11 p.m. tonight. It was drizzling throughout the entire night, and I wasn’t sure whether it was really worth my time to go down to the Charles River bridge and watch and listen in the rain, but BOY AM I GLAD I DID! The orchestra was fantastic – Boston City Pops are renowned internationally – but it was fireworks display finale at 10:30 which was the real clincher. Half an hour’s worth of the most spectacular displays of light and sound I’ve ever seen, perfectly synchronised with the melodies they were playing over the speakers as well. Many of the other group members took videos – I’ll upload them as soon as I get a copy. But it was truly mind-blowing. Americans really know how to put on a good show. This beats the Transformers movie that we watched last night all hollow.

I’ll never look at another fireworks display in the same way again.
