So I just did a couple of IQ tests for fun… It turns out that I have an age-adjusted IQ score of 135. Which puts me in the “Gifted” category, in the top 2.14% of all test-takers (assuming the population of the Earth follows a normal distribution and the average score is 100).
My strongest score was in Verbal skills, and weakest in Visualization. Which is sorta true. Give it to me in words, and I can understand it. And I can spot subtle differences in words very easily. Ask me to visualize something and manipulate an image or shape in my head, and I find it more difficult.
Of course, IQ tests aren’t the be-all and end-all. After all, how much of my IQ score is derived from the benefits of education, and how much of it is native intelligence? I am already in a vastly superior position than the large majority of Earth’s populace, being born into a middle-class family who can afford to send me to university. And being in the top 2.14 percentile isn’t saying much when you consider the sheer absolute numerical size of the Earth’s population. 2% of 6 billion people means that there are approximately 120,000,000 people who are as intelligent or more intelligent than I am.
Ah well. It’s still nice to be called “Gifted”, I guess…
